On August 2, 1971, the Apollo 15 Space Mission made history and with it the Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph. A timepiece customized by Bulova to deal with the conditions of lunar space and it did its job by providing the mission team with the exact passage of time, thus ensuring that no one ran out of oxygen, water or battery power in the portable life support system backpack. The watch was also used as a backup for the onboard timers during the critical phase of re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
