To celebrate its 115th anniversary, Ebel returns to its roots with one of the collections that most helped define the Maison's identity: the Sport Classic Chronograph. An instantly recognizable watch, born from the encounter between elegance and sportiness, which became one of the symbols of the La Chaux-de-Fonds house in the 1980s.

Today, that same aesthetic returns to the wrist in a new 40 mm interpretation, equipped with a Dubois-Depraz DD2222 automatic chronograph movement and offered in a Limited Numbered Edition of only 115 pieces.

The Sport Classic, an icon of the 80s

The new Ebel Sport Classic Chrono does not stem from a desire to generically reinterpret a model from the past, but recovers some of the elements that made the original Sport Classic famous.

The characteristic integrated bracelet case, the soft lines, and the unique interplay of steel and gold still represent one of the most recognizable expressions of Ebel design today. An aesthetic language that, in the 80s, accompanied a generation of enthusiasts as well as entertainment and sports figures, becoming part of the Maison's identity.

The new version preserves this personality, but updates it with contemporary proportions and automatic chronograph mechanics.

Four interpretations of the Sport Classic Chrono

For its 115th anniversary, Ebel presents four numbered versions, all sharing the 40 mm case and the automatic Dubois-Depraz movement.

The first two, ref. 1216748 and 1216749, are crafted entirely in steel. The first pairs the case with an elegant opaline white dial, while the second opts for a refined opaline navy blue. In both, the integrated steel bracelet highlights the sporty yet sophisticated character of the Sport Classic.

The other two interpretations, ref. 1216750 and 1216751, take the design toward an even more precious dimension. The steel case is enhanced by an 18 kt 3N yellow gold bezel, which is also reflected in the integrated bracelet.

Ref. 1216750 features the classic opaline white dial, while the 1216751 stands out for its dark blue dial with a sunray finish, creating a particularly elegant contrast with the gold elements.

The character of the Ebel chronograph

The dial represents one of the most interesting elements of the new Sport Classic Chrono. Time is indicated by Roman numerals, while the chronograph configuration maintains the model's classic layout.

In the white dial versions, the elegant character of the opaline surface is accompanied by golden details and counters, while the blue introduces a bolder, more contemporary personality.

The case measures 40 mm in diameter and just 11.60 mm in thickness, maintaining balanced proportions and a wrist presence that is significant but not excessive.

The sapphire crystal case back also allows for a view of the automatic Dubois-Depraz DD2222 movement, transforming the mechanics into an integral part of the watch's aesthetic experience.

The famous integrated bracelet

One of the features that most characterizes the Sport Classic is undoubtedly its integrated bracelet.

Even in this new celebratory edition, Ebel retains this distinctive trait, with a fluid construction that follows the lines of the case and helps create that particular visual continuity that made the model famous.

In the two all-steel versions, the result is sportier and more understated. In the models with 18 kt 3N yellow gold, however, the bracelet takes center stage alongside the bezel, emphasizing the more luxurious side of the Sport Classic.

115 pieces to celebrate 115 years of Ebel

The production number is not random: Ebel has chosen to create only 115 numbered pieces, one for each year of the Maison's history.

It is an edition designed, therefore, not just as a new interpretation of a historic chronograph, but as a true celebratory watch, intended for those who recognize the design of the Sport Classic as one of the most important chapters in Ebel history.

From an aesthetic point of view, the project succeeds in keeping the 80s character intact without turning it into a simple nostalgic exercise. The result is a chronograph that preserves its original DNA and brings it into the present through modern construction and automatic mechanics.

Ebel Sport Classic Chrono: the past returns to the wrist

With the new Sport Classic Chrono 40mm Limited Edition, Ebel rediscovers one of its most representative models and uses it to celebrate a particularly important milestone.

Steel or steel and 18 kt gold, white or blue dial, four interpretations, and only 115 numbered pieces: the new collection recounts 115 years of Ebel through a design that does not need to be reinvented.

Because the Sport Classic remains, even today, exactly what Ebel aimed to represent from its very beginning: a perfectly balanced encounter between beauty and functionality.
