Hamilton expands the American Classic collection with the new Cushion Mechanical Small Second, a watch that revives one of the most fascinating shapes in the Maison’s history and reinterprets it with a contemporary touch.
Available in 30 and 34 mm sizes, the new Cushion stands out for its characteristic rounded-edge case, the small seconds sub-dial, and an aesthetic strongly inspired by the 1920s. The result is a timepiece with vintage character, updated with modern technical solutions.

A history that begins in 1919
The cushion case holds an important place in Hamilton’s history. The first Hamilton watch with this particular shape dates back to 1919, while the Cushion Plain and Cushion Engraved models appeared in 1926, also featuring the distinctive cushion-shaped crystal.
The new model is born directly from this heritage. Hamilton has reclaimed the most representative elements of the watches from that era, striving to keep the original identity faithful while introducing contemporary technical updates.
The charm of Art Deco
The design of the new Hamilton Cushion Mechanical looks directly to the Art Deco aesthetic, with bold numerals, essential geometries, and details that evoke the elegance of the 1920s.
The collection offers dials with different personalities. The version with a light beige sandblasted surface expresses a warm and refined character, while another interpretation features a surface with a sunray finish starting from 6 o’clock, enhancing the small seconds sub-dial.
Completing the selection is the white enamel-effect dial with black lacquered Roman numerals, designed for a more classic and timeless elegance. The design also draws inspiration from the watches seen in the film Oppenheimer, strengthening the bond between Hamilton, history, and cinema.
The small second at the heart of the design
The true aesthetic star of the Cushion Mechanical is the small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock, an element that contributes decisively to its traditional look.
The movement chosen by Hamilton is the H-42 / ETA 7001 caliber, an ultra-thin manual-winding mechanical mechanism with a thickness of only 2.5 mm. The movement features 17 jewels, a frequency of 3 Hz, and a power reserve of 57 hours. The Nivachron balance spring also increases resistance to magnetic fields, temperature variations, and shocks.
It is a choice that reinforces the model's authentic character: the manual winding and the small second bring the very traditional mechanics that made many vintage timepieces famous back to the center of the experience.
30 or 34 mm: two sizes, the same identity
The Cushion Mechanical 30 mm features a steel case measuring 30 × 30 mm, with a thickness of only 8.1 mm and a lug-to-lug distance of 34 mm.
The 34 mm version maintains the same 8.1 mm thickness, increasing the case size to 34 × 34 mm and the lug-to-lug distance to 38 mm. Both use sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and offer water resistance up to 5 bar.
The hour and minute hands feature a glossy black lacquered finish and Super-LumiNova®, while the full-grain cow leather strap, available in black or brown, completes the model’s vintage look.
Hamilton Cushion Mechanical: a classic returns
With the new American Classic Cushion Mechanical Small Second, Hamilton recovers a historic shape and transforms it into a modern interpreter of Art Deco style.
The compact proportions, the small second, the manual winding, and the details inspired by historic watches create a precise identity: a timepiece that is vintage in its aesthetic but contemporary in its technique, available in two sizes to adapt to different interpretations of the same style.
