Junghans , the celebrated German brand known for its accessible luxury watchmaking and minimalist Bauhaus-inspired designs, presents a new variation of its iconic Meister Chronoscope collection, this time with a fir green dial that adds a touch of freshness and personality without losing the brand's signature understated elegance.
Founded in 1861 in the Black Forest by Erhard Junghans, the company has a long history of innovation and refined design. During the 20th century, Junghans was even the world's largest watch manufacturer, achieving impressive numbers with over three million pieces produced annually. This prominent position allowed the brand to collaborate with prominent figures such as Max Bill, an exponent of the Bauhaus school, and Anton Ziegler, the watch designer who created the Meister collection in the 1930s.
The Meister collection is renowned for its deceptively simple yet meticulously detailed design, designed to reduce the visual bulk of the watch despite its relatively large movements. This balance between mechanics and elegant lines is also evident in the new Meister Chronoscope with a green dial: a modern-sized watch with a polished steel case measuring 40.7 mm in diameter and 13.9 mm thick.
The secret to its elegance lies in a few key details: a barely-there bezel, domed sapphire crystal that adds depth, and a case design that progressively tapers toward the edges, creating a sharp and refined silhouette. The screw-down case back with transparent mineral crystal completes the design, also ensuring water resistance to 50 meters.
The new fir green dial gives the watch a sophisticated character, while maintaining the clean, harmonious aesthetic typical of the Bauhaus movement. Macchiato-colored accents can be seen in the hands of the small subdials, adding a refined detail without altering the overall cleanliness. The hands and indexes are rhodium-plated with subtle luminous inserts for good readability even in the dark, while the day/date window at 3 o'clock is discreetly positioned.
Inside, beats the proven automatic caliber J880.1, derived from the Valjoux/ETA 7750, known for its robustness and ease of maintenance. This movement offers a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of approximately 48 hours, combining precision and reliability.
To complete the look, the Junghans Meister Chronoscope Green Dial is presented on a beige ostrich leather strap with a steel pin buckle, creating an elegant color match with the details on the dial.
In short, this new version of the Meister Chronoscope combines the charm of Junghans tradition with a modern design and a fresh color palette, offering a watch that is both refined and distinctive. A true tribute to the "less is more" philosophy that makes Junghans a benchmark in minimalist watchmaking.
