Paths of the East
This limited edition of 500 pieces celebrates the cultural exchanges along the Silk Road, establishing a dialogue between Venice and the East. Xi'an, the origin of this millennia-old network of trade and cultural routes, is the project's inspiration.
The dial, hand-set in mosaic-worked red mother-of-pearl, interprets the traditional cloud motif, a symbol of prosperity and good luck in Chinese culture. The design echoes the orderly rhythm of imperial decorations, while the gold indexes and numerals in Chinese ideograms complete the ensemble, strengthening the connection with the visual language of the ancient capital.
The Origin of the Silk Road
The Silk Road originated as a vast network of commercial and cultural exchanges that, beginning in the Han Dynasty (2nd century BC), connected China to the Mediterranean. While this network centered in the East in the city of Xi'an, Venice over time became one of its main Western references, thanks to the role of its merchants and the maritime routes connecting the East to Europe. Goods, ideas, and knowledge traveled along these routes, giving rise to one of the most enduring intercultural dialogues in history, which remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration today.
