Edox has a long history in the world of dive watches, with models that have left their mark on the history of watchmaking. In recent years, the Swiss brand has reignited passion for its most iconic creations, re-introducing collections like the SkyDiver in both vintage and contemporary styles. Today, it's the turn of a legendary name: Hydro-Sub. With the new Edox Hydro-Sub Automatic Chronometer Limited Editions , the brand blends the allure of the past with today's technologies and materials.
The first Hydro-Sub appeared in the 1960s and immediately established itself as a top-tier diving watch. Thanks to a special crown system with a tension ring and shock-absorbing gasket, it was capable of water resistance up to 500 meters, an impressive feat for the time. This design served as the basis for numerous other robust models designed to withstand the most demanding conditions.
Today, Edox recaptures that pioneering spirit and translates it into a new series of limited-edition models. After celebratory collections such as the North Sea 1967, the North Sea 1978, and the SkyDiver, the Swiss brand is bringing the Hydro-Sub name back to the dial, ready to captivate fans of sports and historically inspired watches.
The design is clearly vintage and takes inspiration from the 1965 model. The steel case is barrel-shaped, with a diameter of 42 millimeters and a thickness of 12.5 millimeters, satin finishes alternating with polished details and integrated lugs for an authentic 1960s look. The unidirectional bezel, with a ceramic insert and 60-minute scale, is designed for diving, while the screw-down crown with double O-ring and the closed case back guarantee water resistance to 300 meters.
The range includes three variants. Two are in steel, with a blue and orange or black and beige dial, and a third is in steel with a black PVD treatment, featuring yellow details and a matching diving scale. Each dial features a slanted flange with a minute scale, large rectangular indices filled with Super-LumiNova, matching hour and minute hands, and a slim seconds hand. The date window with a white disc and black numerals is located at 3 o'clock.
The beating heart of these Hydro-Subs is the Edox caliber 806, based on the proven Sellita SW200 automatic movement. Regulated to chronometric specifications and COSC-certified, it offers an accuracy of between -4 and +6 seconds per day. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and guarantees a 38-hour power reserve.
The new Edox Hydro-Sub Automatic Chronometer Limited Editions represent a perfect blend of retro charm and modern reliability. A watch for those who love the sea, diving, and the history of watchmaking, capable of making a statement both on the wrist of a professional diver and as an everyday companion.
