The Khaki Field has always been one of Hamilton 's iconic models and, more generally, the very concept of a field watch. Robust, essential, and true to its military vocation, it's no surprise that it has become a staple for collectors and enthusiasts. Today, however, the Swiss-based American brand has decided to add an unexpected touch to this icon. Thus was born the new Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Power Reserve 40mm , the first in the collection to integrate a power reserve indicator directly on the dial.
A technical detail that makes the difference
Aesthetically, it remains faithful to the line's canons: a sandblasted steel case, an easily legible dial, and a no-frills look. The real novelty is on the left side of the dial, where the power reserve scale appears, marked by the letters "F" (Full) and "E" (Empty) . A reference that is more reminiscent of on-board instruments than a wristwatch, but which adds a practical and fascinating function.
The case measures 40 mm in diameter and 11.95 mm thick, making it slightly thicker than the classic 38 mm Khaki. It's an interesting middle ground for those who find the smaller models too discreet and the 42 mm ones too large.
The new manual caliber H-23
This model is powered by the hand-wound H-23 caliber, developed by ETA specifically for Hamilton. The power reserve is a remarkable 80 hours , and the indicator on the dial allows you to monitor it in real time. A technical feature is the presence of a sliding spring , a solution typical of automatic movements, which allows the hand to resynchronize even after shocks. This feature was designed specifically for a watch designed to face dynamic situations.
Dials and straps
The Khaki Field Power Reserve is available with two dial options, black or white , both with indexes and hands treated with vintage radium-colored Super-LumiNova. The watch comes with a choice of a three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp or a green NATO strap with brown leather inserts. Hamilton has also introduced the EasyClick system, which makes changing straps quick and easy.
Price and positioning
The new Khaki Field Power Reserve presents itself as an original variation of the collection, without distorting its values. It launches at a price of $945 with a NATO strap and $1,025 with a steel bracelet , making it competitive in terms of technical specifications and attention to detail.
A classic that looks forward
With this model, Hamilton isn't reinventing the field watch, but rather giving it a useful and fascinating complication that enhances its character without distorting its tradition. The Khaki Field Power Reserve proves that even timeless pieces can find new inspiration, while maintaining the blend of reliability, history, and understated elegance that has made the collection a legend.
