The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date collection, already appreciated for its classic and versatile style, is updated with a touch of freshness and modernity for Watches and Wonders 2025. While the structure of the 40mm stainless steel case remains intact, the most obvious innovation comes from the colour palette and the new bracelet, which give these models a lighter and more contemporary character.
The case design remains faithful to the past: clean lines, polished sides, a satin-finished upper surface, and a smooth polished bezel that lends a refined yet understated look. Measuring approximately 48mm from lug to lug and 12mm thick, the case is the ideal size for elegance without being bulky. Completing the profile are a domed sapphire crystal and water resistance to 50 meters, making these watches perfect for everyday wear.
The true aesthetic revolution is evident in the dials, offered in three light and airy shades: a pale yellow, a fresh turquoise, and a delicate lilac. These colors bring a breath of energy and originality to the line, far from the more sober and classic tones of previous models. The dial has also been completely redesigned: the cathedral-shaped hands have given way to more modern pencil-shaped hands, while the model's iconic date hand is now a long triangular arrow for clearer and more defined readings.
Another important detail concerns the hour markers, which appear to be made of solid Super-LumiNova, ensuring a more intense and long-lasting glow in the dark, a marked improvement over previous models with flatter dials.
The new three-link bracelet represents a step toward a sportier, more contemporary look. Unlike the previous seven-link bracelet, which had a more formal feel, this version offers a more modern and less elaborate aesthetic. While it lacks a quick-release system, the bracelet features a half-link butterfly clasp for a more comfortable fit.
As for the movement, these new Big Crown Pointer Dates are equipped with the Sellita SW200 caliber, rebranded as the Oris 754, with a power reserve of approximately 41 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. While not an in-house movement, it guarantees reliability and precision, striking a balance between performance and affordability.
The arrival of these models marks a potential new chapter for the Big Crown Pointer Date collection, which appears to be more consciously balancing its vintage heritage with modern touches that broaden its appeal to a wider audience. It remains to be seen whether this direction will lead to a clear redefinition of the collection or simply further variety within it.
In any case, Oris confirms its ability to innovate while respecting its roots, giving watch lovers a product that combines functionality, style and a new, lively and distinctive colour palette.
