In 1982, Seiko amazed the world with a digital watch that was out of the ordinary: the Rotocall . It was the Japanese brand's first model with a multifunction rotating bezel , an ingenious innovation that allowed you to change modes simply by rotating the bezel. No more complicated buttons or combinations of buttons: a simple gesture was all it took to switch from time to stopwatch, from timer to alarm. A design as innovative as it was fascinating, it won over enthusiasts, athletes, and even astronauts, becoming a symbol of the digital age of the 1980s.
Today, Seiko brings that icon back to life with the new Rotocall 2025 collection, reinterpreting its pioneering spirit in a contemporary key.
The case retains its compact shape and unmistakable octagonal bezel, but the design has been updated with modern materials and even more refined attention to detail. Inside beats a new Seiko A824 digital module , which manages all the classic functions—time, stopwatch, alarm, dual time, and timer—smoothly and intuitively, just like the original.
The new Rotocall is offered in three color variations that celebrate the lively soul of the 80s:
-
🔵 SMGG21 – blue and grey details, elegant and technical
-
🔴 SMGG19 – black and red accents, with a sporty character
-
🟡 SMGG17 – Black and yellow touches, bold and dynamic
The 37 mm steel case, high-contrast digital display and knurled bezel give the watch a bold and recognisable look, while water resistance up to 100 metres confirms its practical vocation.
The result is a watch that combines nostalgia and innovation , bringing back the allure of vintage digital watches with the precision and reliability of today's Seiko technology.
The new Seiko Rotocall is more than just a reissue: it's a tribute to creativity and the courage to experiment. A symbol of the past that returns to pulsate in the present, with the same visionary spirit that made it legendary over forty years ago.
